The great value of not being alone:

Even if no-one laughs at your jokes, it’s still better than telling them to an empty room.

I’m thinkin’ this needs to be in a one-shot? Might write it…what do you think? Yes or no?

Friendzone and Misogyny

blua:

As defined by urban dictionary, the friendzone is…

When you are expected to support a girl you really like while she searches for a smarter, richer, and more handsome boyfriend. There is little you can do without feeling like a dick. All in all, one of the meanest things a girl can do, whether…

1. What five albums would you consider to have had a formative effect on ‘growing up’?

Ooh, tough one. My parents really loved/played a whole lot of Joni Mitchell’s Indigo, and there was also a ton of Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd). For me personally, it’s a bit more complicated. Apparently, until I was about three years old, I would scream at anything except classical music—so my poor parents bought Debussy, Prokofiev, anything with a lyrical melody and a healthy dose of piano; I also adored Hot Jazz Saturday Night, a program on NPR that still broadcasts today.

2. Because the Avengers just came out, if you could pick any five superheroes to head your team, who would they be? (Doesn’t matter if it’s American comics or Japanese manga or movies whatever)

Oooh! Good one. Uh, I’d go with hotties! So. IronMan and Captain America, because superhusbands are necessary in any crime-fighting arrangement. Next up… Wonder Woman (and yes, I know this is crossing the DC/Marvel line in the sand…don’t care). And finally Charles and Erik (Professor X and Magneto) because damn, mutations and gay? SUPER. Plus Batman can be our tech consultant. We’ll wire him into our headsets and he can bitch in that hilarious voice of his how we never press the mute button.

3. Do you consider comics/manga/graphic novels to be literature?

Absolutely! As with any genre, however, there are obviously exceptions. In a somewhat pretentious way, I consider graphic novels and comics slightly moreso than manga, if only because some manga is reduced to a barely-cohesive method of porn delivery. That’s not to say I haven’t read some really touching manga, or some really porny novels—but I find that it’s a general rule.

4. Would you go into a shark cage?

Maybe for lots of money.

5. What do you spend most of your money on that isn’t boring grown-up stuff?

Probably vintage clothing. I have a band that plays in persona of a 1920s group, so I’m a bit enamored of the era and spend quite a bit on it.

6. Are you interested/keep up with politics and/or activism?

It’s my major in school, so yes, a bit.

7. Are you in post-secondary or considering post-secondary and what are you interested in studying?

I am! Poli-sci, international affairs. Maybe law, eventually?

8. Any weird eating habits?

I used to be super picky, but not at all anymore. I pretty much love anything ethnic at all, and if you tell me it’s good, I’ll eat it!

9. If you could travel anywhere and money and time were not a constraint, where would you go, for how long and why?

Europe, forever, because it’s Europe. A tour of the whole thing, specifically spending lots of time in France, because I speak French and it’s beautiful and the food is magnificent and it feels like home, and Denmark, because I have tons of relatives there and the food is pretty swell there too.

10. If you could travel in time would you go back and meddle or just observe?

Does harassing Arthur Conan Doyle count as meddling?

11. You’re having a movie marathon night and I‘m invited, what’s the theme?

Superheroes. Hot ones. And maybe some booty-shorts-only. Sound good?

Have you ever been yelled at by someone in a car? Are you, or have you ever been, a woman?

XMFC Sketches

Heya Tumblahhhh!

What do you think of these (two of which made it into my finished piece below)?

So Long! By Walt Whitman
(Happy Tuesgay!)
Dear friend, whoever you are, take this kiss, I give it especially to you-
Do not forget me; I feel like one who has done work for the day, to retire awhile;
I receive now again of my many translations-from my avataras ascending-while others doubtless await me;
An unknown sphere, more real than I dream’d, more direct, darts awakening rays about me-
So long!
Remember my words-I may again return, I love you-I depart from materials;
I am as one disembodied, triumphant, dead.
